Wesley A. Fryer, PH.D
Dr. Wesley Fryer is a digital learning consultant, author, digital storyteller, educator and change agent. As the author of the “Mapping Media to the Common Core” digital literacy framework and ebook “Playing with Media,” he is a passionate advocate for engaged digital learning and student-created digital media projects.
Dr. Fryer works as an “Innovative Instructional Coach for Common Core” with K-12 teachers in Yukon Public Schools in Yukon, Oklahoma. He earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas Tech University in 2011. With respect to school change, he describes himself as a connected change agent. Dr. Fryer challenges teachers to ask students, “What do you want to create today?” His openly licensed digital literacy framework highlights student-created multimedia in twelve project categories.

Dr. Fryer’s blog, “Moving at the Speed of Creativity” (www.speedofcreativity.org) was selected as the 2006 “Best Learning Theory Blog” by eSchoolnews and Discovery Education, and is utilized regularly by thousands of educators worldwide. He has taught technology integration courses for pre-service and in-service K12 teachers as an adjunct instructor at the University of Montana, the University of Central Oklahoma, the University of North Texas, and Wayland Baptist University, and has served as a co-convener for the annual K-12 Online Conference since it began in 2006. He became a Google Certified Teacher in 2009, was named an Apple Distinguished Educator in 2005, is a 1992 graduate of the US Air Force Academy, and a Fulbright Scholar. He is an active member of the education committee of the Oklahoma Creativity Project and the cSchool Bootcamp faculty presented by Creative Oklahoma.
Dr. Fryer’s educational background includes service as an elementary classroom teacher, campus technology integration specialist, college director of distance learning, state director for education advocacy for AT&T, director of technology for a state historical association, and K-12 technology integration coach. He is the author of the 2011 eBook, “Playing with Media: simple ideas for powerful sharing,” and a lead facilitator for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Scratch Software Camps for students sponsored by the Oklahoma nonprofit, The Div Jr. Dr. Fryer is the executive director of the nonprofit Story Chasers Inc., the lead partner in the Celebrate Oklahoma Voices, Celebrate Kansas Voices, and Celebrate Texas Voices digital storytelling projects. He is a sponsor and lead teacher for an after-school student journalism club in Yukon, Oklahoma, Lakeview Elementary Storychasers.
