SERVICE CATEGORIES:
1. Technical support assistance
We have 3 technical support assistants who are assigned in various districts to install, support, maintain, and repair networks, hardware and software systems. At MCESC, this involves our office network as well as networks at PACE, the Simon Resource Center and Mahoning County Unlimited Classroom. In addition, we support all MCESC preschool sites and special education sites. This support involves the total spectrum from making recommendations on purchasing through the acquisition, set up and training of personnel on appropriate use.
2. Technology for communication
Communication is a primary focus for our department. We promote MCESC and our programs with our online presence - the MCESC web site. The web visitor has access to a multitude of resources which include courses of study, assistance with the Erate program, teacher resource page, links to the Ohio Department of Education and proficiency pages, job postings, job applications, etc.
We facilitate communications within groups through the use of online forums and online course development tools, as well as, blogs and podcasts. In addition, we can quickly communicate with any of our districts - or anywhere with our video conference network.
Currently, we have several web published databases which allow not only universal sharing and collecting of information - but also, the flexibility to add or append at any time. These processes allow us to accomplish online registrations, scheduling of meeting rooms and quick and easy access to our Continuous Improvement Plan.
3. Support for Districts and District Tech Coordinators
Our districts look to us for leadership and direction with most issues involving funding from eTech Ohio programs. This involves making sure that they meet the eligibility for the many programs and that they complete all requirements to receive funding. The eTech Ohio programs cover funding for building connectivity wiring, assistance for electrical upgrades, funding for classroom computers and software, Tech Equity programs, professional development for teachers and administrators, special programs providing content for classroom use, etc. In addition, we take the lead on assisting districts with the development of their Technology Plan.
We facilitate help sessions dealing with all requirements of the Erate program to make sure all districts receive the entitled discounts on internet access and telecommunications. We also work with our ITC site ACCESS on the development and implementation of training for tech coordinators and EMIS personnel.
4. Integration of technology into the curriculum
A major focus of our department is the implementation of the ODE Technology Academic Content Stantdards and Model Curriculum. We are working to streamline the instructional efforts of MCESC personnel with the creation of instructional video presentations, online instruction - Tech Nerd Tips, podcasts, blogs, etc.
